At Punta Pacifica Hospital, a calf augmentation is generally an outpatient procedure. The surgery lasts between one and two hours and is preformed by our highly dedicated, American-schooled surgeons. Prior to your surgery, your doctor will set up a consultation where he will ask you questions regarding your medical history and any medications you might be taking. You will discuss the procedure and results you wish to attain. If you smoke, you will be asked to not smoke in the weeks prior to surgery. You will also be asked to refrain from taking aspirin or any other anti-inflammatory drug as they thin the blood and can cause an increase in bleeding.

The surgery itself is fairly simple and is generally done under local anesthesia and IV sedation. If the idea of the procedure proves too gruesome for you, you can opt for general anesthesia. Once you are sedated, your surgeon will place you on your stomach on the operating table. Small incisions are made in the crease behind the knee. A pocket is created between the fascia (muscle covering) and the muscle itself. Depending upon the desired effect, one or two implants are placed in the pocket in the medial and/or lateral side of each calf area. The implants are made of soft, but solid silicon. The incision is then sutured closed.

Following your Panama calf augmentation, your doctor will advise you to keep your legs elevated when possible for a week post operation. Walking will be difficult the few days after the surgery, so rest and relaxation is recommended. You will be able to shower within two days of the procedure and within one week, can resume working (if the work is not too strenuous). Three weeks after your medical tourism calf augmentation, you will be walking normally and comfortably. Two months following your surgery you will be able to resume exercise and other vigorous activities.
