Traveling to Panama
is very easy, and here are the most common answers to
questions you might have:
Visas
If you are a United States or Canadian Citizen, you only need
a Valid Passport and a Tourist Card, which can be purchased, for just
US$5, at airline counters, and even as you arrive in Panama. Tourist
cards are valid for up to 30 days.
Safety
Panama has areas we do not recommend visiting. Is important
to note that Panama is one of the safest Countries in Latin America,
and any really dangerous areas are far away from visited areas, such
as near the border with Colombia.
Still, all of the tourist, shopping and visiting areas we feature here
are fairly safe for you and your family. Your Case Manager can advise
you on any area you wish to visit.
Language
The official language
of Panama is Spanish, but English is widely spoken and understood, both
in Panama City and in the interior of the Country. Your Case Manager
will be able to help you with translating, if necessary.
Currency
The US Dollar is legal currency in Panama, so there
are no hassles with currency conversions. Panama does not have a Dollar
Bill, so only US$ bills are used. For coins, both US and Panama's coins
are used, which are the same value and weight.
Time Zone
Panama is under US Eastern Standard Time, but does
not observe Daylight Savings Time.

110w and 60Hz , the standard in the US and Canada.
Phones
Most hotels will give you direct calling to everywhere
in the world. You can also purchase "pre paid cards" to use
on public phones. Cellular phones are available for rent on request.
Climate and Weather
Panama has mostly a warm weather. Depending
on the area of the Country, such as the highlands, temperatures are
much cooler. Panama has 2 seasons, the rainy season and the dry season.
The rainy season runs from April- November. It is especially sunny between
the months of December and April. During these months visiting one of
the beaches should be considered.
Caribbean Sea:
On the Caribbean coast, the beaches on the provinces of Colon, San Blas
and Bocas del Toro and their neighboring islands, are small to mid-sized
and all of them have coral reefs nearby, they are often near other waterways
and most have been formed by coral buildup. These are the best beaches
to do some scuba diving in.
Pacific Ocean:
On this coast you'll find a series of beaches which are easily accessible
from the Pan-American Road. Many water sports including windsurfing,
surfing and swimming are practiced here. The most popular of these are:
Gorgona, Coronado, San Carlos, El Palmar, Río Mar, Corona, Sea Cliff,
Santa Clara, Playa Blanca and Farallón.
